I have put together a nice example comparing bump maps and displacement maps. It’s an important distinction, and you should be prepared to use either of them to give your models detail without having to craft small scale geometry.

Please come to class if you have not been coming. I need to see what folks are doing for their projects.
Thanks

We will discuss the use of expressions and Maya system variables to animate models – something that every Maya animator must do. Please come!
We will also take a look at the scripting language MEL as a whole.
Buzz
We will cover some more important techniques for tuning lighting in a scene.
Please come – and if you have not talked to me yet about your project, please be prepared to do so, even if it is only very preliminary.

We will be looking at some important lighting effects and settings, so please come to class!

Below is a copy of the first soft deadline that I posted recently. I would very much like anyone who has not talked to me about their project ideas to do so tomorrow, Wed, the 13th. Please come to class!
Sort of Due on Monday, Feb 11
• A proposed storyline for what you are going to convey with your
video, in a few paragraphs, including at least:
• A beginning
• A middle
• And end
• A few hand or vector drawn images of the scenes you plan on
building
• A list of the more difficult or time consuming aspects of your
proposed project, in terms of
• Modeling
• Materials and textures and lighting
• Animation
• Rendering
We will look at a few more new techniques – and then I would like to see if we could begin a discussion about your projects. Bring your ideas.
If you have not been coming to class, please come!
