I have put together a nice example comparing bump maps and displacement maps.  It’s an important distinction, and you should be prepared to use either of them to give your models detail without having to craft small scale geometry.

We will discuss the use of  expressions and Maya system variables to animate models – something that every Maya animator must do.  Please come!

We will also take a look at the scripting language MEL as a whole.

Below is a copy of the first soft deadline that I posted recently.  I would very much like anyone who has not talked to me about their project ideas to do so tomorrow, Wed, the 13th.  Please come to class!

Sort of Due on Monday, Feb 11

• A proposed storyline for what you are going to convey with your

video, in a few paragraphs, including at least:

• A beginning

• A middle

• And end

• A few hand or vector drawn images of the scenes you plan on

building

• A list of the more difficult or time consuming aspects of your

proposed project, in terms of

• Modeling

• Materials and textures and lighting

• Animation

• Rendering

We will look at a few more new techniques – and then I would like to see if we could begin a discussion about your projects.  Bring your ideas.
